WFH for Delhi govt staff, primary schools shut amid steps for air pollution
What is the reason for Delhi air pollution?
Delhi is one of the world's most polluted cities through the year. This is due to a mix of factors including dust, weather patterns, traffic fumes and industry emissions. But its air turns especially toxic in winter when farmers in neighbouring states burn crop stubble.
The Delhi government Friday announced that 50 per cent work from home for government employees as air quality in the national capital and adjoining areas plunges to hazardous levels. This comes hour after the government ordered the closure of all primary schools. In a joint press conference, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann took responsibility for the excessive stubble burning that has led to a decline in air quality over the last few days. However, they also said that air pollution was not limited to Delhi or Punjab, and was “a North India problem”. “This is not the time for blame game and politics, but time to find a solution to the problem. Blaming Kejriwal or the Punjab government won’t help,” he asserted,” Kejriwal said.
